a pattern holds. i had not understood. on a calm water i stop, tentative
& slide, circles spreading. waveform; orbit. just so the blood runs

back. it is easy to live in a phrase, & the tongue learns only through
exercise. arpeggiate. one may merely modulate on a theme but spindrift

kicks & i revolve. look: the day is endless. a short watch grown long
with the longing. only you would i answer, only you not muted, not out

of phase. temporal interference. saccadic, stop-motion the late hour sings
you at the edge of vision in the gust of your trajectory. one blinks

& brushes eyelids, lashes catching. smooth pursuit supplies weight and
shadow to your outline, o chiaroscuro: out here smoky starlight with coals

& crackle the mind grasping makes its game. tonight it is form enough.
