songs for keeping the watch: night 01

darling i am keeping the watch. in rainslick & siren one waits, but to mark
time is to revolve headlong. to progress. in dim & linger. but never believe

that a silent sentry is blind as well, o lovely, ears pricking & in the
ear's inner reaches, in labyrinth & vestibule, i pluck notes from wires

tapping. the song we make of distance. the same old tune. i weary but never
of you & in duration, in this year that again grows old i find: there is

a comfort in revolution. if this is makeshift i have never known a palace.
a fit lodging of future: on a night like this, in rain & drowse we will

let the books lapse overdue. our boots are wet; but there is fire, & there
is fire, & the possible is balm & scotch & i fierce will not forget.

having already set sail these long years ago. the time is marked as we.
